For the Kid in You

A few of Matt's friends came over last weekend for a night of gaming. Yes, gaming. Not poker or video games, but good old-fashioned role playing games.

They're a really nice group of guys, but I often tease them that they're still 12 at heart. But then what's wrong with that?

So...what do you make for a bunch of grown-up kids? Kid-friendly favorites, of course.
So, I served them home-made cream-filled chocolate cupcakes, peanut butter cookies...with and without chocolate kisses, and cream-filled, 'canoe-shaped', snack cakes.

But they had to eat dinner first, so they got this enormous burger. Roasted garlic on the inside, topped with blue cheese.
And I do mean it's big. Over a foot across, with a loaf of bread for a roll!

Instead of fries, there were BBQ-flavored potato wedges, roasted in the oven.

Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night, eh?

- Fallen Heroes
My original plan for Alex's birthday cake was to create candy (wafer chocolate) heroes to place on the tiers. They came out pretty good, I like to think. However, as I discovered around one in the morning...day of party...that they were just too...

- This Many
Alex turned five Friday, and had his party Sunday. It was superhero-themed, and we held it at the Children's Museum. There was food and cake, and after presents, the kids were free to explore the museum, which is very hands-on. A two-story doll house...

- There Was No Wearin' Of The Green, But...
When we were in Ireland a few years back, practically every where we ate...from pubs to restaurants to castles...we found ourselves being served a trio of dishes: a simple green salad with a mustard-y dressing, a coleslaw with shredded carrot, and a...

- Outside, Inside
Normally, it's about the food. Food blog, after all. But this time, the food is more a means to an end. So, I don't have much to say about the goat cheese pasta, or that fact we used a novelty, heart-shaped, pasta in the recipe. Instead, I took...

- Anniversary Cake
I saw my wish-list mom, Ina Garten, make this cake to celebrate her & Jeffrey's wedding anniversary. It's nothing at all like our wedding cake, but six years later, change can be good. Six years. In Hollywood, that's a lifetime. Nice &...
