Those Fruits de Mer Are ROTTEN

Yes, I've been away.

I was dealing with some Blogger problems; I couldn't even access this blog. Kind of hard to post when faced with a 'you don't have permission to view this address' message, eh?

And then...well, I made Creole Chicken and Ham Fried Rice.

Stir-fried scallions and red bell peppers to start, followed by ham (we used pancetta for Matt, and veggie ham slices for me), paprika and cayenne, then (already cooked) chicken (and Veat) rice, shrimp and water; cook till shrimp are done.

Although we both thought it a bit bland...it clearly needed more spice...we liked it.

But then...Matt got sick.

I mean, seriously unwell. Let's say he had an unpleasant evening, and called in sick the next day.

The only thing we can think of: the shrimp were 'bad'.

Matt had picked up a package of frozen shrimp on the way home (very last minute "crap, we need shrimp!"), and we defrosted and used about half.

Based on the way he's felt since that meal, the left-overs have gone out with the trash for today's pick-up.

Poor guy's been subsisting on toast, ice cream and tea.

So...not much cooking going on around here!

- Cambodian Chicken & Rice Soup For Souper Sundays
, I like the cooler temperatures a lot more than Matt. My feeling is that you can add more layers to get warm, but when it's hot you can only take off so much to get cool! There's another, and more recent, reason I like this time of the year:...

- In Fact, It Is Easy Being Green.
Saturday, while I was stuck home with an upset stomach, Matt and Alex headed to Earth Fare for the latest Red's Round-Up; a healthy-eating club for kids the store hosts each month. This month, it was all about Greens. Matt took just a few pictures,...

- Finally, As Promised:jalapeno-cornmeal Muffins
Indira's been waiting, and here they are! Muffins for Matt, three jalapenos, minced, cornmeal, flour, buttermilk, and mashed potatoes (recipe calls for zucchini, but ours went bad), topped with grated cheese (Asiago), and baked till dry and firm....

- Arf! Arf! Says The Trained Seal...
That's my goofy kid. He was taking a bath (with bubbles, Crayola bath colors, and scented/colored fizzies), and Matt was crunching on baby carrots; you know, trying to get (and keep) something in his stomach. Alex asked for carrots, too, and ate...

- A Trip To The Ranch
99 Ranch Market, that is. One of our favorite places to shop while living in California was a fantastic store called 99 Ranch Market. What an amazing place! A full-sized market, but the spin was...all the products were Asian! Korean, Japanese, Chinese,...
