Someone's in the Kitchen with Alex: Gruyere Waffles

Under the tree, Alex found two new cookbooks. C is for Cooking and A Star Wars Cookbook.

You know, because he's our kid.

First thing he wanted to try, the Cheese Waffles from Sesame Street.

A fairly standard waffle recipe, but with the addition of cheese. Several option
are given, such as cheddar, but not my boy. No, Mr. Spend-My-College-Fund-On-Pricey-Ingredients couldn't be bothered with a basic cheddar; he wanted Gruyere.

As always, he had great fun scooping & dumping & mixing, which is kind of the point, yes?

A savory waffle, syrup was out of the question. Matt had his topped with peppery bacon & scrambled eggs. During the week, Alex had cheese & veggie-ham sandwiches, with left-over waffles in place of bread, for lunch.

We're cranking up the flavor for this month's Blog Party; it's time to Spice it Up!

Hope to see you there.

- Caramelized Onion Waffles With Smoked Salmon:recipe
Sometimes what inspires me most is a cookbook. I read cookbooks like some people read magazines. Browsing, skimming the index, picking and choosing a recipe here, a recipe there. Like many cooks, I don't necessarily follow recipes to the letter,...

- They Tell You To Eat Three Square Meals A Day...
So, I'm only following orders. Dinner of Gruyere waffles topped with peppery bacon (or Morningstar Farms faux bacon strips) & scrambled eggs. Seriously filling & perfect on a cold night....

- Someone's In The Kitchen With Alex: Why Raising A Child Is So Expensive
Cheese Tortellini in Saffron Cream Sauce Matt got the saffron out, saving me from dragging out a stool the next day (I'm short, cupboards are tall), and like just about every other food, spice or seasoning he sees, Alex wanted to smell it. After...

- Someone's In The Kitchen With Alex: Breakfast Muffins
I guess I've always had an interest in food, and cooking. I just didn't realize it until I was in my teens, and practically had to beg my parents to let me make dinner. Unlike many of my food blogging friends, I don't have stories to share...

- Sourdough. Not Just For Dinner Anymore.
In addition to all the bread recipes in Breads from the La Brea Bakery, there's a bunch of "extras" which use the starter. My favorite is for the dog biscuit, if only for the description, in which she says that since it's made from all human-grade...
