Not the Best, and Late at That

I'd had every intention of joining Kevin's Mac & Cheese-off last week, but as usual...the best laid plans, and all.

We did get around to making our own cheesy pasta (as Alex refers to it); using a recipe from the Tribune (which I cannot find now, of course); it purported to be the Best Mac and Cheese of All, or some such silly thing.

It used Gruyere and cheddar, and an ungodly amount of milk. Panko crumbs on top. Sounded wonderful.

Well, it was...alright. Ok.

For all the time involved, and despite the lovely ingredients, it was simply...'eh'.

Nothing at all wrong with it. There just wasn't anything special about it.

No strong flavors, nothing to grab you, smack you in the face and make you say 'wow'.

We ate it, sure. But we won't be making it again.

This month, we're keeping things Black & White.

Our canapes, our drinks; everything in Black & White.

The party is Saturday, 20 January; please 'RSVP' by Thursday, 18 January, with your entries. (thehappysorceress at gmail dot com)

Hope to see you there!

- Cream Of Sam's Soup

A good sign life is returning to normal? Food prep has nothing to do with chocolate, candy decorations, or anything else holiday-related. We hadn't actually planned a menu, but I was ready to do some 'normal' cooking. Normal is the watch-word....

- Wdb: Lotsa Pups
Donegal and Wicklow hanging out with buddy bear in the guest room. Duke does his patented 'sad dog' routine for us. Fluffy, looking fluffy. Donegal and Doolin...two heads better than one? In their case, it can't hurt. See what all the...

- Home Cooked & Hand-made
For Christmas, my sister-in-law gave us the cookbook Noodle Fusion. Even a simple peruse showed promise; I picked the Ginger Noodles for the test run. Red onion and ginger and garlic, stir fried, added to soaked and drained noodles, mixed with a flavored...

- Wdb: Snuggle Buddies
Doolin usually sleeps under the bed, but Wicklow and Donegal like to snuggle with us. And sometimes, with each other! Check in with all the other pups this week by visiting Sweetnicks... This month, we're keeping things Black & White. Our...
