Gung Hey Fat Choy!

Wishing a very happy new year to all my Chinese readers!!

We don't have the frequent flyer miles to celebrate with you, so Matt and I prepared out own feast.

Hot and Spicy Cucumbers

Chunks of peeled and seeded cucumber stir fried with soy sauce, sugar, garlic, ginger and hot chile paste. Pretty tasty.

Vegetarian Hot-and-Sour Soup

Too many indgredients to mention (we couldn't find dried lily buds!)...I'm not usually a fan of this soup, but I liked this one.

Longevity Noodles

Simple and wonderful; Chinese egg noodles with mung bean sprouts, water chestnuts and snow peas, cooked with vegetable broth, sesame oil, and soy sauce.

I'm always a bit 'iffy' when it comes to thin noodles...I cook my pastas on the safe side of al dente...but I liked these. Better yet? Alex insisted I give him some, and he ate a few fork-fulls. Except, he mostly used his hands...!

Kung Pao Chicken with Cashews

Matt often orders Kung Pao Chicken (this recipe is actually for shrimp), but I've never tried it...till today.

I really liked it...mine was made with Veat bites...and surprising us yet again, Alex asked for the peppers on my plate! Red, green and yellow, he pretended they were a stop light.
Then he ate them. Goofy kid.

Hope everyone had a wonderful day...

- Chinese Noodles Recipe
I'm sure Asian cooking guru Jaden of Steamy Kitchen would cringe if she saw this noodle recipe, but I can't help it. It was my go-to dish my last year in college and it's a keeper. My senior year I shared a big beach house with four other...

- Mirin Chicken With Ramen Noodles For Souper Sundays
From Noodle Fusion; a tasty little soup. Chicken (or Quorn cutlets) is marinated with a reduction of mirin, soy sauce, (vegetable) broth, & sugar. Bring vegetarian dashi (sans bonito flakes) to boil, cook ramen for a couple minutes, drain, cover...

- Wonton Noodles With Chicken & Thai Peanut Sauce
Oh hey...look! Another Asian noodle dish. What are the odds... This is a recipe that called for spaghetti (heck, it's in the name), but I have issues with thin pastas so we opted to use a wonton noodle instead. Turns out, it wouldn't have mattered....

- 14, Not Including Vietnam. They Never Declared It.
Once again...points if you can place that quote! Something new for me; Vietnamese food. Matt's a big fan of Southeast Asian cuisine, but I'm still a novice (and a bit reluctant). So, I decided to put together a whole meal, and see how it went....

- Sundays At Moosewood; On Friday And Saturday
Funny how it works out, eh? Friday, I tried something completely new and different to me: sesame noodles and wontons. Sounds odd, to hear that. I know. But, I grew up in a real meat-and-potatoes town. And 'normal' dinners in my house were...
