Getting in the holiday spirit

I'm not much of a cranberry person.

I'll drink the juice; fine. But I don't eat them.

And I don't eat most pies: I have this issue with cooked fruit, or fruit in things.

(But give me a peanut butter pie, and I'm there, fork in hand)

However, I found a recipe for Cranberry Lattice Tart in the December 2004 issue of Bon Appetit, and wanted to give it a try.

I rarely make pies; I have very little experience making crusts (I'm more of a cake and cookie gal), but I know the more I do it the better I'll get at it.

Interesting crust recipe...it used hardboiled egg yolks! That was weird. But the crust smelled really good...since I gave the tart to my in-laws, I have no idea how it tastes; I'm still waiting for the report.

I think it came out rather nicely.

- Dining With The Bloggers - March 30th
From the moment I laid eyes on Barrett's photo and recipe for his Mexican Black Bean Tart With Cornmeal Crust, I knew I was going to have to try it. I loved everything about it...from its ingredients (especially the black beans) to its being a tart....

- Happy Birthday, Superman!
Also known as 'The Best Pie I Have Ever Made'. I like to think of myself as a fairly accomplished baker. Breads, cakes...it doesn't really matter what it is, I know I can make it. Except for pies. I didn't really grow up with pies. The...

- Waiter, There's Something In My...pie-yah!
I'm a gal who keeps her word, and as I'd promised Jeanne I'd be there for this round of "Waiter, there's something in my...", I present to you: Pie! It may not be The Great Pie, but it was a pretty darn good one. See, I don't like...

- A Nice Change
For Mother's day this year, I decided to give my mother-in-law something different. I usually come over with something chocolatey and rich. So this time, fresh and light; a Mixed Fruit Tart. A very short crust, with a delightful-smelling filling...

- Learn From My Mistakes: Puff Pastry Pie Crust
Photo by Melissa Schneider. I promised to bring a tart to a friend's house last night, but I didn't feel like making a crust. Instead, I used puff pastry from the last batch I made. I had seen this idea before, but I wish the suggestion...
