Dellicious Death

What better way to celebrate Agatha Christie's 120th birthday Wednesday than with this aptly-named cake?

Taken from the Miss Marple novel A Murder is Announced, it's a flourless dark chocolate cake, filled with boozy raisins, cherries & ginger & topped with ganache. Crushed candied roses & violets as decorations, along with, in this case, gold luster dust. (recipe calls for gold leaf but with one day to assemble ingredients I was out of luck. ...No, I don't have gold leaf in my pantry. At least, not all the time.)

Not a cake I'd enjoy personally (once you add fruit I lose interest) but definitely a treat in a rationing-weary England...even if its unfortunate moniker was foreshadowing. Poor Bunny.

- A Renaissance Meal For My Renaissance Man

- Under "likes": Chocolate
She said she liked chocolate. So I gave her chocolate. A double-dark chocolate cake, topped with a thick & shiny ganache and Jackson Pollocked-white chocolate. 'Paisley' shaped cake....

- Post-oscar Decadence
Of all the nominations, I've only seen...two?...of the films. Ratatouille and Michael Clayton. Which is probably a higher number than past years. We decided to have a sort of 'decadence' dinner. Nothing too fancy, just foods we really enjoy....

- Starry, Starry Cake
(photos taken under less-than ideal circumstances) About a year ago, I bought the cookbook The Whimsical Bakehouse. It looked like fun, and hey, who doesn't want more fun in their lives, even if it's via the kitchen? I turned to TWB for Matt's...

- Salutations And Congratulations
My father-in-law recently celebrated two events: his sixty-ninth birthday, and his retirement from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. My mother-in-law wondered if I would make a cake...? Of course I would Another recipe from Perfect Cakes, I made...
