Picnic in the Park

Last week was Spring Break for our area. Alex had the week off, and while Matt couldn't be spared the full five days, he did manage to play hooky a couple of times.

On one of the days, we located our picnic basket from the attic, packed it into the car, and headed to both Earth Fare and CostPlus World Market.

At each store, we bought portable, ready-to-eat, food and drink items, then headed to a really wonderful park with covered picnic areas (Zarah...that's where we went when you and Martin were here!).

We had a fresh baguette, crackers, and a vegetarian 'turkey' salad.

Several sausages, a vegetarian pate, and tabouli.

A smoked salmon pate, a Fuji apple, smoked Gouda.

And some lovely sparkling lemonade.

Not shown, but also included, were strawberries, raspberries and cantaloupe, fruit leather and blueberry iced tea.

We had a fantastic meal, with the rest of our afternoon watching Alex run around the play area. Matt pretended to run toward or from him, but it was hot and we're out of shape!

This is exactly the sort of memory I want Alex to have: us, as a family, spending a somewhat spontaneous day together. And I hope to provide him with many more.

Let me tell you; this 'no dairy for three weeks thing' is already getting on my nerves. Planning a menu for an entire week...without cheese? Harder than I thought. Matt lucks out, though...he gets to try out some recipes I'd book-marked just...

- In Fact, It Is Easy Being Green.
Saturday, while I was stuck home with an upset stomach, Matt and Alex headed to Earth Fare for the latest Red's Round-Up; a healthy-eating club for kids the store hosts each month. This month, it was all about Greens. Matt took just a few pictures,...

- Indoor Picnic
So, I finally have a big, gorgeous house, with an enormous yard, filled with old trees and flowering bushes. Our yard is so big, neighbors are often coming up to us and suggesting we sell off a section. Um...no. Unfortunately, as part of the package...
